Six Michael Jordan alter egos. One mismatched Air Jordan 9 Low.
Jordan Brand is bringing one of the more memorable pieces of Michael Jordan lore back into the spotlight with the Air Jordan 9 Low “What The Kilroy.”
Taking inspiration from the original 2012 Kilroy Pack, the latest release combines the colors, characters and design details from all six Kilroy alter egos into one mismatched Air Jordan 9 Low.
Rather than reissuing the six individual sneakers from the original pack, Jordan Brand has essentially turned the entire collection into one pair.
WHO IS KILROY?
The 2012 Kilroy Pack was built around six fictional Michael Jordan alter egos — each representing a different personality and each receiving its own Air Jordan 9 colorway.
The six characters were:
Johnny Kilroy
Motorboat Jones
Bentley Ellis
Slim Jenkins
Calvin Bailey
Fontay Montana
The Air Jordan 9 Low “What The Kilroy” pulls from all six.
A PROPER “WHAT THE” PAIR
The mismatched construction is what immediately grabs your attention.
The left shoe comes in a predominantly black build with dark blue wrapping the lower half, an orange midsole, yellow lining and white laces.
The right shoe goes in an entirely different direction with red leather, black overlays, light blue lining and black laces.
It's not simply two colorways mashed together. The shoes are packed with smaller references to the original Kilroy Pack.
The tongue tags spell out the names of the six alter egos, giving the pair its own Kilroy checklist. The insoles feature three stacked Jumpman logos, while the heel embroidery alternates between 23 and 4.
And behind the tongues, “KILROY WAS HERE” ties the release directly back to the original Kilroy advertising campaign.
FROM THE KILROY PACK TO “WHAT THE KILROY”
The original 2012 release turned Michael Jordan's fictional alter egos into six separate Air Jordan 9 colorways. This time around, Jordan Brand takes the opposite approach.
Instead of choosing one Kilroy, you get all six.
The result is a sneaker that feels deliberately chaotic — exactly what you'd expect from a “What The” release — while still being loaded with references for anyone familiar with the original pack.
The low-top Air Jordan 9 construction also gives the “What The Kilroy” a different look from the original 2012 high-top releases.
