Civil x New Balance Numeric 480 “Quahog” Arrives September 4
Some collaborations start with a color palette. This one starts with a clam.
Celebrating 20 years of Civil Skate Shop, the Civil x New Balance Numeric 480 “Quahog” takes its inspiration straight from Rhode Island’s coastal culture. Clamming is part of life in the shop’s home state, and Civil has brought that local connection to a shoe with plenty of texture, personality and a healthy sense of humor.
The upper takes its cues from a quahog’s shell, pairing tough-looking grey tones with hairy suede and ocean-inspired iridescent details. White fishing-rope laces carry the coastal theme, while purple accents frame the tongue and pick out the Civil logo.
Inside, things get a little less serious. The insole features a clam character standing on a skateboard, wearing New Balances and a Civil hat. If you’re going to turn a clam into a skate shoe, you might as well give it a setup.
Civil kept that same energy for the promo, heading out on the bay to film a clamming video. There’s even a custom issue of “Clammer Magazine,” a seafood-flavored take on Thrasher that ties the whole concept together. Watch the video below for a look at the world behind the shoe.
What makes this collaboration work is how clearly it belongs to Civil. It celebrates the shop’s anniversary through something rooted in its own backyard, turning a local tradition into a skateboarding story without taking itself too seriously.
