Twenty years after Paul Rodriguez’s first signature Nike SB shoe changed the direction of skate footwear, the original is back in a new “Ale Brown” colorway.

Paul Rodriguez became Nike SB’s first signature athlete, beginning a partnership that has now produced more than ten signature shoes across a career defined by progression, longevity and an unusually high standard of professionalism.

The original Nike SB P-Rod 1 arrived in 2005, pairing the boardfeel expected from a skate shoe with the structure and impact protection of a cupsole. Its return brings back the flick, feel and rounded toe shape of the original design rather than treating the first P-Rod as a source of inspiration from a distance.

This edition dresses the silhouette in plush Ale Brown suede, giving the shoe a rich, understated appearance that works naturally with the early-2000s shape. Textured Swoosh logos add contrast across the sides, while signature P-Rod patterned sidewalls wrap around the heel.

The matching Ale Brown outsole keeps the colorway grounded. An additional plate beneath the foot provides impact cushioning without abandoning the familiar cupsole construction that defined the original.

Inside, a black and red sockliner carries the recognizable chain-link pattern through the design, adding a sharper hit of color to the otherwise tonal palette.

For longtime P-Rod fans, the release offers another opportunity to skate one of Nike SB’s foundational signature models. For anyone who missed the original run, it’s a chance to experience the first chapter of a partnership that helped shape the last two decades of skate footwear.

The Nike SB P-Rod 1 “Ale Brown” releases Saturday, October 3, 2026, at Overload in North Park, San Diego.
